Do you remember life before the internet?
Do I remember life without the internet? Absolutely. I missed those days, too.
It was in the evening back in 2002, my best friend came to our house he said to me “Wale, let’s go to Internet cafe to browse” before then I have never used the internet although some of our friends have already familiar with the technology.
I remember paying the Internet cafe guy some money to access the internet for 30 minutes then, it was exciting playing around with a new founded hobby. Same day I signed up for a yahoo mail account. It was marvelous to be able to see other parts of the world and able to communicate to people through email and MSN chats in those days.
Prior to this technology, I used to send letter to friends of mine. We would play games on Nintendo Gameboy handheld console. We usually take turns playing this little console.
Mostly, back then it was face to face communication. Although, rotating dial up land line phone were hot cake in that era.
Do I miss those days? Absolutely. I missed the days you can communicate with real people. Go to shop to buy stuffs using paper money and have rapport with the cashier. I miss the days when children were free to play with each other outdoors without doomscrolling or get abused online.
Albeit introduction of the internet developed the world, the fact still remains that it also comes with lots of disadvantages, like:
• Distractions
• Hacking, Viruses, Identity theft
• Stalkers, Crimes, Trolls, and Intimidation
• Causing kids to avoid playing outdoors
