In this part of Africa, weekends are for resting and resting well. The hustle of the weekdays can get overwhelming, and by the time Friday rolls around, my body and mind are begging for a reset. So, every weekend, I take time to slow down, breathe, and do the things that help me feel grounded again. I call it my weekend reset routine; honestly, it’s one of the main ways I protect my peace.
I love my me-time. It gives me clarity, helps me feel in control, and keeps me fresh for the week ahead.
Here’s what my typical weekend reset routine looks like:
1. Deep Cleaning My Space
The first thing I do is deep clean my house. It might not sound relaxing, but there’s something about a clean, organised space that calms me instantly. No matter how tired I am, I can’t stand clutter. I put on some music, roll up my sleeves, and get to work. By the time I’m done, it feels like I’ve cleaned my mind too.
2. Food Prep for the Week
Cooking during the week can be a chore, especially after a long day. So I take a few hours on the weekend to prep meals or ingredients. It saves me time, money, and a whole lot of stress. Some weekends I cook full meals, and other times I just chop, season, and store. Either way, future me is always grateful.
3. Laundry and Ironing
This is a non-negotiable. I wash everything bedsheets, towels, clothes. Then I iron all my outfits for the week ahead. I absolutely dislike wearing rumpled clothes, so this step keeps me organized and feeling put-together every day. It’s the little things, really.
4. Unwinding with a Book or a Show
After all the cleaning and prepping, I finally sit down to relax. I catch up on my favorite shows (I always have one or two I’m watching), or I read a good book. It’s my little escape, and it helps me reconnect with myself before another busy week starts.
